Valtteri Bottas is all but linked to the second Mercedes seat to partner Lewis Hamilton for 2022. Here is the reason or potentially the reasons, why Russell could be staying at Williams, despite his superstar performance in the 2021 BWT Austrian Grand Prix.
1. Inconsistency from Russell
Russell is fairly inconsistent, so spending more time in Williams might benefit him. He’s a talent, but maybe he needs to be more consistent.
2. Russell Performs better on Saturdays than on Sundays. (Excluding Sprint Races)
Saturdays count towards your starting position and in the standard Quali, Russell performs massively in the Williams. However, he performs at a worse level on Sunday. Bottas can do better and usually does do better.
3. New Regulations
Of course, the new regulations of F1 could sway Mercedes’ crucial 2nd driver decision towards the Finn, as teams will look to keep stability for the season with the new cars,
