Football manager Jose Mourinho has, according to the club's chairman, signed a year long contract for the Wellington Phoenix, worth a reported 3 million NZD (approximately 1.5 million USD).

The UEFA Champions League winning manager, who experienced his best years coaching clubs such as Porto, Real Madrid and Chelsea, has been unemployed for months after being sacked from Manchester United in England, and is eager to get back on the sideline, this time in a completely different continent.

'I have never managed outside of Europe before,' he said at a press conference earlier today, 'so it will be a good challenge for me, in a new environment.'

Wellington Phoenix are New Zealand's only proffesional football team, and play in the Australian Hyundai A League. Current manager Mark Rudan, who is departing at the end of the season, is rumoured to be moving back to his homeland of Australia to manage either expansion team Western United, or Adelaid United.
