A polar bear had been seen nearly 2 kilometres south of the Thelon River, in Baker Lake around 2:30 PM, by a young fox trapper.
Locals are asked to be on alert incase the bear attempts to walk into the town, otherwise someone can be severely injured. They are especially asked to be more on alert when driving on the road to the airport, or fishing down on the ice, the young trapper says.
He says
"I was setting my trap, when I heard the bear roar. I tried scaring it off, but it seemed to be hungry and wouldn't go."
He also says
"it kept walking towards me, so I started sped home to warn others"
He hopes that the bear will not try and walk towards town.
