The flames shot higher than the nearby hotel as a local witness told us. Those people in the hotel were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Growing flames and billowing smoke caused people to stop and stare.
Workers at a nearby Popeye's called the Flowood fire department while on a smoke break. Ladrius Williams and Juan Trujillo work near the fire and said, “We were just out getting a quick smoke and we saw this big old giant smoke, black, so we came down here.”
They say it’s something they’ve never seen before.
“No, never in Flowood. We thought it was a wreck or something because of the black smoke, or the tire shop too,” said the Williams.
Firefighters say when they got there they saw vehicles from the parking lot in flames.
