Gamers all over the world were left shocked and appalled when Epic Games shut down on April 17th, 2019, at 1:17 PM. Here are Tim Sweeney’s word on the matter.
“This is the hardest moment of my life, to announce this, but we have to say goodbye to Epic Games, and goodbye to Fortnite. Fortnite was a wild journey, but in wake of our lead developer’s firing, we can’t keep giving players what we were giving them. This is truly a tragedy for everyone at the company, but I assure you, we will be giving compensation cash to all who worked here. I have heard about Telltale’s closure and I want to make sure we have no wrongs that we need to right. Fortnite will be shutting down on May 9th. So make sure you get in your playing sessions before you lose them. If you had a credit card account linked to your Fortnite account, you will be refunded for all the money you spent on Fortnite. But if you don’t have a credit card linked, do that before Fortnite’s closure as we will not be there to give refunds then. We are sorry for any trouble we are causing. We know people have been changed by our game, and that is a heartfelt thing to hear. As for our Epic Games Store, you will be refunded for any games you bought. If you haven't downloaded your games before the Fortnite closure, they will be inaccessible. Again, we will be refunding any games you bought, but you need a credit card linked. We hope we have given the community enough details to make sure they haven’t lost any money. And goodbye from Tim Sweeney.”
