Former Secretary of State and two time candidate for President, Hillary Clinton, admitted in a speech last night that President Donald Trump has lifted up his supporters which she termed "a basket of deplorables" during the 2016 campaign for the White House. Secretary Clinton was speaking to the Association of American Educators on education policy when she declared that "love him or hate him, President Trump has uplifted the poorly educated and low income group of Americans that I called "deplorables" during last year's campaign. I now regret the term but must acknowledge that my opponent spoke to the huge mass of poor whites in our nation that have been victimized by Wall Street and forgotten by many of us in places like New York City or Los Angeles." She went on to say that her Democratic primary opponent, Bernie Sanders, had a message that resonated with these voters and that the Democratic party must work to build connections with working class white voters that have been forgotten. Recent polls suggest that the poorest and most alienated white citizens are not giving up on President Trump despite the Russia investigation and other scandals plaguing the current administration.
