Former campaign manager for U.S. President Donald J. Trump Paul Manafort, according to the Associated Press has made a deal with Unites States Attorney General Jefferson Sessions, implicating Trump in crimes including money laundering, conspiracy against the United States, perjury during sworn testimony, felony fraud and racketeering. it is unknown at this time if any of these charges have any relation to the investigation into collusion with Russia.

Manafort was escorted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington Field Office under heavy guard and wearing a bulletproof vest, as he, and authorities, now fear for his life. He is to be kept in protective custody, and the details of the deal worked out with the Attorney General remain tightly under wraps. All Justice Department employees that know about this have been subject to a gag order. As a sitting president, Donald Trump cannot be indicted, as Manafort was, but a special joint session of Congress is being planned for this week, and Manafort is scheduled to appear under subpoena and testify under oath. While Trump cannot be indicted, Congress does have the constitutional power and authority to begin impeachment proceedings, which would definitely please many of his critics in the Democratic Party, as well as some Republicans. Recently, Trump's popularity with the American public has reached a record low, showing there would probably be very little resistance to impeachment (which would leave Vice President Mike Pence as acting president, for the remainder of the term). As of this time, the White House has been unavailable for comment.
