[CHICAGO] "Paint the Bean black so they can't Windex it," says the title of an event on Facebook with over 5,000 people interested and almost 500 going. There has been a spike in Facebook events similar to this involving the iconic "Chicago Bean," officially named Cloud Gate, lately, and it has some in the Chicago community worried. They're worried for the safety of the Bean, and the safety of themselves.

"I just can't believe people are actually contemplating coming to Chicago and vandalizing the Bean," says Timothy Cook, a resident of Chicago who has lived here his entire life. "It's such an iconic staple of a beautiful American city -- how could you do such a thing as paint it black? It would no longer be shiny."

Another resident, Allison Williams, is worried about the safety of people living in or visiting Chicago. "With this many people threatening to come to the Bean, that could cause quite a lot of chaos and danger to the residents here. What if they get trampled from the rush of people?"

We reached out to the Chicago Police Department and they assured us that there is no safety concern. "We will have police officers staffing the Bean 24 hours for the next several weeks to ensure its safety," Police Chief Darren Williams said in a statement. "There is no need to worry. We will keep the Bean safe from these Facebook events."

Any questions about the Bean's safety can be directed to AT&T Plaza, the owner of the Chicago Bean, at 1 (800) 321-4556.
