Alabama resident Tanner Dooley was charged today for having a raccoon in his household.

According to recent law, owning a raccoon as a pet in Alabama is not allowed.

"I just wanted her as my own. I didn't know it was illegal," Dooley stated, "and if I knew I wouldn't have thought of it."

Animal control took care of the raccoon, and set it free into the wild. The raccoon was estimated to be at full growth, and female.

"She was my best friend." Dooley said to interviewers.
"I didn't want that taken away but I guess we can't all get what we want."

Dooley cooperated with authorities in a peaceful manner, and is only facing fines for the wild animal in captivity.
