Lake Manager Brad Ellis released a comment today from the Army Corps of Engineers, that due to "serious" damage to the dam, Lake Belton would have to be drained so emergency repairs may start. The drainage is expected to take 6 weeks to process, at that point repairs may begin. Engineers said the front face of the dam is in serious danger of collapse and it is a priority to get the repairs complete before the next rainy season starts in central Texas. We find it is important to note, that no evacuations will occur, currently everyone IS safe, this is being done to prevent any issues later on.
