If you receive food stamps, check your account. You may have some extra money post Irma. There are hundreds of people given extra foodstamps this month, but some feel it's not enough.
Department of children and family (DCF) are looking in to hundreds of cases of claims for reimbursement of spoiled food from hurricane Irma. 23 people so far have been found committing fraud by claiming the food that they bought on foodstamps was spoiled. DCF has been tracking where and when food was bought. Also checking to see if it was even perishable foods. Most cases of fraud were due to the fact that they claim that their perishable foods were spoiled, and they never even bought perishable foods.
Department of children and families has been going in and calculating the amount of perishable food Bought and checking with the amount claimed to have spoiled. I feel sorry for the ones abusing the system, because it looks like a lot are going to jail.
