Facebook has been taken by storm in recent days by oft-shared fake headlines stating that products such as Blue Star beer and Mt. Scio Farms savory are discontinuing production of their popular made-in-Newfoundland products.

It seems that a website known as trend-news.com allows you to create a "prank" headline with a picture that will nest in Facebook News feeds and look legitimate if the reader doesn't ask themselves "Huh, what's trend-news.com and why have I never heard of it and what's their source on this and how the jesus does anyone function in 2017 without the slightest bit of media literacy?"

It's predicted that VOCM will have enough puzzled phone calls or a slow enough news day to run a headline about this craze within the week.

At the time of publication, it was unclear how these pranks were funny, interesting, or generally worth the time of day.

The writer of this piece acknowledges the irony inherent in the above statement.
