easyJet traffic up by 9.4%
By Doug Newhouse, 7 July 2010

One of Europe's leading low-cost carriers easyJet has reported a 9.4% increase in passenger numbers carried in June to 4.54m, up from 4.15m a year ago. This is also the largest monthly increase since the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland disrupted all of Europe's air space last April.

By comparison, easyJet's rival Ryanair saw traffic increase by 15% to 6.7m in June. Meanwhile, in unrelated news, Europe's second-highest court has upheld the decision by EU regulators to block Ryanair's to buy Aer Lingus three years ago, saying there were valid concerns about the deal.

This followed an appeal lodged by Ryanair against the European Commission's rejection of its takeover bid.
