Women in Travel raise more than S$5,000
By Doug Newhouse, 19 May 2010

The Women in Travel (WiT) group raised more than S$5,000 ($3,577) at the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore last week to help victims of the Chinese earthquake, which tragically claimed more than 2,000 lives in April of this year.

At a packed event, hosted by Catherine Bonelli of Lacoste, WiT members listened to Sherry Zheng of China Duty Free Group explain how the money would be used through its Hope Foundation to help rebuild a primary school in the mountainous plateau of south-west China.

Although WiT is a women's only group, the industry's male contingent were equally generous in buying raffle tickets and donating prizes and, in total, S$5,036 ($3,603) was raised by representatives from almost 100 travel retail companies.

SPECIAL THANKS
WiT said that special thanks go to MCM and Bally who donated fabulous bags from their latest collections which were auctioned at the event, along with the following companies who donated raffle prizes: Amala, Bacardi, Belvedere, Bulgari, Cadbury, Coty, Esprit, Favarger, Ferrero, Godiva, The Harston Group, Interparfums, Kaloo, Kenzo, Kipling, L'Oréal, La Prairie, Lacoste, Mars, Maui Jim, Morgan & Oates, Nestle International Travel Retail, Oxygen, Patons, Protege, Reflecta, Rémy Cointreau, Scorpio, Shiseido, Storck, Swarovski,Tintamar, Toscow, Travel Blue, Wizz, William Grant and others.

WiT founding member and Business Relations Director for WDF and Aldeasa Sarah Branquinho said: "From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank WiT members and our very big-hearted male colleagues in the industry who helped us raise this money, either by buying raffle tickets or donating prizes. Many thanks too, to all those who hosted and helped to organise the Singapore event: Catherine Bonelli and Mélanie Boyer, Lacoste; Amanda Felix, DFNI (who provided the Champagne); and Tina Tam, La Prairie. Thanks also to ELI for the flutes."

WiT's next event will take place at TFWA World Exhibition in October, hosted by Gerry Munday of MCM. Further details will be announced in due course and Branquinho added..."We have some very ambitious plans!"
