IAADFS makes a real quality step up
By Doug Newhouse, 2 March 2010
The general consensus amongst exhibitors and visitors alike was that last week's IAADFS Duty Free Show of The Americas in Orlando's World Center Marriott was a great success, with TREND hearing no major complaints and good praise for the organisers.
IAADFS Executive Director Michael Payne, IAADFS said he was very satisfied, with no real complaints, although he said on the last day that IAADFS had yet to collect and examine its annual survey replies.
Asked for his reaction to the show, Payne said: "I think for moving the show in a ten-month time frame and doing it as quickly as we did this has been a huge success - not just the association, but more importantly the exhibitors.
"The look of the hall, the quality of the exhibits and the attitude of the people has all been upbeat and positive. Their appointments are full and a lot of these guys are booked out until the end of the day today, so I haven't had any negativity around it at all."
A STEP UP IN QUALITY
Asked whether he thought the show was a step in quality, Payne replied: "Yes, I absolutely do. I think some people have always done a great job with their booths, the branding and the image side, but more and more have for this show. Many of those we have had in the past have stepped it up a little bit, so I think it is a much bigger improvement.
"We have got back the intimacy that we lost when we moved to Fort Lauderdale and we knew we were going to suffer a little bit from that, so I think that is another huge benefit. So all of the social benefits of networking at the associated components are back and I think everyone likes that.
"I mean even when the weather is a little rough one day, when you are under one roof it doesn't really matter."
At the time of talking Payne said that numbers stood at some 2,710 attendees which was around 13% up over the previous year.
BUYER NUMBER AROUND 900
He said: "The only number I don't have at this moment is the final buyer number, but it was hovering around 900 when I last looked, so we have that important ratio of buyers and suppliers.
"I know that we have more buyers than we did last year, but I just don't have the final number by category, but the final number is going to be in the 2,700 range and above."
COMMENT: A really good show, well organised and a very good atmosphere with a lot of business being conducted. Michael Payne, his team and the IAADFS Board of Directors should all be congratulated-Ed.
