Aberfeldy launch with WDF
By Doug Newhouse, 27 November 2009
The first ever Aberfeldy 'Single Cask' 18-year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is to be launched exclusively with World Duty Free within its newly-renovated store at Edinburgh International Airport on December 1, following its earlier launch with WDF in early November in London Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5.
Retailing at a recommended retail price of £250 ($410), the 260 individually numbered bottles were produced from one single cask, handpicked by Mark Riches and Nigel Sandles of WDF with the Master Blender of Dewar's Blended Scotch Whisky, Stephanie Macleod, as part of a key retail initiative with the Bacardi Global Travel Retail Division [as reported in the Travel Retail Business magazine-Ed].
"We developed Aberfeldy 'Single Cask' Single Malt with World Duty Free as we both share a common philosophy towards luxury and premium brand experiences," said Andrew Carter, Global Managing Director of Bacardi Global Travel Retail Division.
"Furthermore, we expanded the launch to reflect its provenance, Scotland, unlike most Scotch companies that introduce new duty free products exclusively in London Heathrow."
The company added that this exciting retail relationship shows the potential for innovation when suppliers truly collaborate with retailers.
It says that the idea was sparked from Dewar's Global Brand Ambassador, Stephen Marshall and Bacardi Global Travel Retail has worked together through all stages of the development with WDF, including cask selection, packaging design, and high impact in-store displays.
