Duty Free Philippines opts for JDA solutions
By Doug Newhouse, 26 August 2009

Duty Free Philippines (DFP) has selected the US-based JDA Software Group to help improve its supply chain logistics by supplying merchandising and category management solutions.

JDA claims to be 'the world's leading supply chain solutions provider, helping companies optimize operations and improve profitability' and it boasts a global customer base of more than 5,800 retailers, manufacturers, wholesaler-distributors and services industries' companies.

DFP, with an annual sales turnover of around $190m, has eight outlets in the Philippines, with the biggest being its off airport Fiesta Shopping Mall in Manila which has long specialised in targeting returning overseas Filipino workers.

In a statement, JDA said that its previous work with DFP has already proved successful: "With the implementation of JDA Merchandise Management System (MMS) 10 years ago, Duty Free Philippines has been able to achieve excellent performance across sales channels, provide visibility into inventory position, as well as drive sales, margins and cash flow.

"The retailer's expansion initiatives in the past year have prompted the implementation of additional licenses and upgrades of MMS to help optimize inventory across channels, to stay connected to core customers, as well as to help achieve continued success in this dynamic retail environment."

Dino Belmonte, Division Head for MIS, Duty Free Philippines added: "In support of strategic initiatives, our main focus over the last 12 months has been the launching of the Northwing SM Cebu store and the arrival and departure stores at the Terminal 3 Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the new Davao International Airport. With our 'mall inside a mall' retail concept, our goal is to efficiently provide both international tourists and overseas workers with a wide array of product lines, while at the same time increasing revenues."

JDA adds that Duty Free Philippines is also implementing JDA Space Planning to streamline operations with tightly integrated business processes, facilitate effective collaborative planning, reduce out-of-stock incidences, achieve precision merchandising through localized assortments and optimize space and category performance.

"Having the capability to secure the right assortment of products to the right locations and at the right time is vital to our success as a leader in the duty free retail industry," said Michael Christian Kho, General Manager, Duty Free Philippines.
