Thirty-two-year-old Gehmein Gbor from Brooklyn was out for a walk when he decided to stop and purchase some Lottery scratch-off tickets. Gbor said he randomly chooses his tickets and bought seven tickets that day in the hopes of winning big. One of those tickets, Lady Luck 7, earned Gbor a $1,000,000 payday.

“I brought the tickets home and scratched them after my walk,” explained Gbor. “This one was the last one I scratched. It was unbelievable. I must have checked it at least ten times.”

Gbor purchased his jackpot-winning ticket at the Rite Aid on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn. He opted to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment totaling $492,202 after required withholdings.

“Winning the Lottery is very exciting,” explained Gbor. “As of now I don’t know what I’ll do with the winnings.”

Gbor is the 75th New Yorker to win a prize of $1,000,000 or more this year.

The New York Lottery contributed $1,303,190,659 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts across the five boroughs during fiscal year 2016-2017.

About the New York Lottery
The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.27 billion in fiscal year 2016-2017 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
