AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) Manassas, Virginia native and long time Augusta, Georgia resident, Alonz McMillian (or JoppaDaGreat, as he is known musically), may finally have a chance to reach the forefront of mainstream media. Sources say on Monday, 23 October 2017, Mr. McMillian signed a deal worth approximately $1.5mil usd with Atlantic Records.

This comes a few weeks after the release of his debut album, “Call It What You Want” being released on streaming platforms, for fans and newcomers alike. The album has received positive reviews and acclaim for its originality, and lack of “routine” sound.

This signing comes as a direct result of Craig Kallman, the president of Atlantic Records, getting a hold of the album via musical streaming app Spotify. “I often have my team search for “diamond in the rough” unsigned artist on music apps” Mr Kallman recalls, “and when one of my A&R’s brought “Call It What You Want” to my attention, I said “hey, we gotta sign this kid right away!”’ Mr. Kallman went on to say he has big plans for JoppaDaGreat, and was looking forward to see him blossom.

We’ve reached out to Mr. McMillian for comment, and have been unsuccessful at the moment, but we spoke with his friend Cordell Hall, and he informed us that he would be back to us shortly.
