Spilling from big cars and small cars from near and far, CLOWN FEST has unanimously chosen Johnson City, TN for its annual gathering next year.
"2018 will a particularly important year for us clowns and the International Clown Association", said Fred Ziffel, past ICA President and current Oversight Committee Chair Clown. "Given that Ringling Brothers Circus has released all Clowns and now a nation is terrified over clowns in storm drains because of this incredibly insensitive movie called 'IT', we clowns need to re educate the public at large as to why clowns and clowning around hold such great significance in our everyday lives."
Ziffle said that both the City and other entities involved are "on board" and excited to see thousands of clowns, from all over the world spilling into Johnson City. Ziffle also stated that he's had a lifelong friendship with the Johnson City Chambers Gary Mabry. "Mabry helped me get to my first interview as a clown, way back in college. I couldn't get the darn shoes and make up right and I'll tell you what, did he ever step up and save the day. I'm hoping to get him in make up and into a small car with us as we make our grand entrance into the Downtown!"
According to Mary Smiles (not making that up), the Administrative Public Affairs Coordinator for the ICA (North American Chapter), " We envision Downtown Johnson City covered with lights, tents, clowns, jugglers, fake dogs on leashes, carnival music and more". Shes hoping to also bring a slew of side acts no longer employed by Ringling Brothers Circus. She says, "it's so sad to see the Tiny Tims, the Bearded Ladies and others who have nowhere else to go". She's hoping that by including these forgotten friends, that the ICA will show unity and be an example for all. Smiles is also hoping to get Yee Haw Brewing involved as well. According to Smiles, "being jovial and making people laugh is such hard and stressful work. Add to this a growing fear of clowns due to this detestable filth of a movie called 'IT', clowns need to unwind. Statistics and research shows that clowns strongly prefer beer to liquor and we're hoping to turn Yee Haw into Hee Haw for a few days!".
More info will be released officially from the ICA and NACC (North American Clown Collective) about next year's event before years end.
