Antique car enthusiast nationwide are preparing to protest the bill presented before lawmakers to abolish access to public thoroughfares throughout the country for vehicles of considerable age. If passed into law, the ruling will affect some 7 to 10 million currently licensed automobiles. For display in car shows and other public exhibitions, such models that are 25 years and older will need to be transported by various types of carriers. Non-compliance of the new law will result in a citation of sizeable expense. Reasons cited in the necessity for this hugely unpopular decision are that older cars do not adhere to federal pollution laws, as well as consume too much gasoline. Safety violations and traffic congestion in many areas were also named as minor considerations. The bill will be on the floor of the House of Representatives as early as next week. Senate approval is expected in the following week.
